Effective Jan. 1, 2026, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) will transition from a co-sponsoring board to a qualifying board for Critical Care Medicine (CCM). This change was made to ensure the continuation of the combined training in OB-GYN Specialty/Subspecialty along with CCM. Given the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) expertise in this subspecialty, it made the most sense for ABA to play the predominant role in the CCM certification process. Thus, ABOG transitioned its status to allow this to happen.
As a qualifying board, ABOG will no longer certify our diplomates in CCM. ABOG will verify the eligibility of our diplomates to take the CCM exam with the ABA. Effective January. 1, 2026 as the administrative board for CCM, the ABA will issue certificates and administer the continuing certification process for ABOG diplomates.
